Airports addressing their CO2 emissions

As our award-winning video says, life is about movement. Getting from A-to-B. Connecting with people, doing business, enjoying holiday travel beyond your immediate locality – there’s no escaping the fact that mobility is a basic human need. But it goes hand-in-hand with energy consumption and all its consequences.

In the past decade, the impact of climate change on our world has become a subject of global concern, initiating awareness campaigns, books, documentaries, street demonstrations and Summit meetings involving international leaders and famous faces.

The airport industry accounts for just 2% of the air transport sector’s total carbon emissions. Over the past 10 years, airports operators in different parts of the world have been gradually channeling their efforts to reduce their CO2 emissions, through an independent programme called Airport Carbon Accreditation. Click on the MENU icon on the left of this page, to discover the key figures and see some of the momentum that the programme has gained since 2009 – including which airports are involved, some of the actions they are taking to reduce their carbon emissions and just how much has been achieved.
